Do the words "You've got mail" have any meaning for you? Have you received an email? Do you open all of the emails that you receive? Have you sent an email? Do you follow netiquette guidelines? Netiquette refers to email etiquette guidelines. Just like there is a proper way to set a table and answer a phone, there is a proper way to write a formal email to a teacher, parent, or friend. Based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards, all students should be able to compose email messages and incorporate advanced techniques, such as attachments, at the 7th grade level. Email becomes an important tool at both the middle school and high school levels for communicating with peers and teachers, and for transferring work between home and school. The purpose of this instructional website is to make sure that all middle school students have the knowledge and skill to send a formal email as a means of communication. It is also important that students know when to send a formal versus an informal email. Read carefully and ask questions as you complete the assignments that follow. Review the table of contents on the next page for details of the site. Due dates for all assignments will be posted on the calendar for this class and on the board in the front of the room.
