Assignment 2: Evaluate Emails Based on Your Email Etiquette Guidelines

Goal 2: Given two sample emails, the learner will be able to explain why one would be considered a formal email to be sent to someone other than a friend while the other would be considered an informal email to be sent to a friend.

Step 1: Evaluate Email

  • Complete in groups of 3-4. 

  • Examine the emails assigned by the teacher.   Link to Email 1A and 1B, Email 2A and 2B, or Email 3A and 3B Each group will be assigned one set of emails: 1, 2, or 3.

  • Using the Top Ten Email Etiquette Guidelines prepared in class, learners will white board (dry erase board) out reasons why an email would be considered formal versus informal, as well as, when each type would be appropriate. 

  • Be prepared to share your ideas in class. 

Step 2: Class Presentation

  • Share the group's Email Evaluation with the class.

Step 3: Large Class Discussion

  • Teacher lead large class discussion on proper email etiquette for formal and informal emails.    

Step 4: Assessment

  •  Assessment for this assignment is based on participation.

  • 5 points - Group evaluation of emails on a white board

  • 5 points - Presentation to the class
